My dentist is Dr. Law from Smileworks and she just remove my lower left wisdom tooth as she felt that i was too nervous and she wanted me to know the feeling of removing wisdom tooth first. I'm actually supposed to remove my upper left wisdom tooth too, but i supposed i'll have to remove it next time.
So some months before CNY, i had toothache and i couldn't stand it, so i went to google for a nearby dentist at Keat Hong randomly and just book an appointment for checkup on my wisdom tooth and at the same time do fillings and polishing.
Like most, i hate visiting dentist because i extremely hated the sounds of drilling and all. So i did not really visit any dentist ever since my secondary school days, ewww i know. I just visited a dentist to do fillings after i started working.
As requested and advised by my dentist, I scheduled my surgery last Saturday 10am at their Paragon outlet as they only do dental surgery there.
I had to do my xray at their woodlands outlet before my surgery as their Keat Hong outlet was too small and they do not have the xray machine there. It's was quite a hassle actually.
So here's my xray! Unfortunately for me, both side of my wisdom teeth are impacted. The right tooth have to be removed sooner or later. -.-
I arrived earlier than my appointment time to fill up some form before my surgery starts. When i met my Dr. Law, she sat down with me before my surgery to explain how's the surgery going to be like and for me to sign a form to acknowledge that i understand the risk involving a wisdom tooth surgery.
My wisdom tooth surgery was overall painless. Start of the surgery, they put a cloth over my eyes. The most painful of all was the LA injection, which i would rate only 2/10? I have a very low tolerance for pain and i was okay. Maybe i should say i trust Dr. Law and i feel safe with her as my first experience with her when she treated me was really good. She's very gentle and slow when injecting to minimize pain for me.
I also asked her if i could listen to some music with my earpiece on during the surgery as i didn't like the drilling sound. I have the music on too loudly initially that i couldn't even hear what Dr. Law was talking! Hahaha! So if you want to listen to music during the surgery, just make sure you can also hear what your dentist is asking you!
The whole surgery process ended in like 30mins. No pain after surgery and swollen cheek and numbness. I even went window shopping at Metro with my mum before taking a cab back home.
My stupid wisdom tooth is finally out! (beware!)
2nd day of surgery. Left side of my cheek still quite swollen. My family wanted to visit the IT Show and I didn't wanted to be alone at home. So i followed them out, 爱美 me even put on makeup.
For your information, here's the breakdown of my cost:
- Wisdom tooth surgery - $900
- Mouthrinse - $10
- Medicine - Amoxicillin (Antibiotics) - $10
- Medicine - Celebrex (Painkiller) - $20
Total cost: $1,005.80 (includes GST)
Some tips for you if you're planning to remove your wisdom tooth:
- Have a big breakfast before your surgery. Be sure to rinse your mouth after eating.
- Go to the toilet before your surgery!
- Dental surgery can be claim under medisave. Just let them know that you would like to claim your medisave.
- Have soft food for the first week after your surgery. Best time to lose weight!
- Rinse your mouth with the mouth wash prescribed after each meal.
- My mum also recommended me to rinse my mouth using cold water is effective to stop the bleeding.
- Take extra care on the surgery site and not sleep on the affected side.
- You can brush your teeth as per normal. Just do not brush hard and near at the surgery side.
Here's my dentist's namecard. You can contact them if you like!

I so agree! The sound of teeth-drilling and pain of injections are incredibly anxiety-inducing, and even more so with the prospect of a dental surgery. So I’m glad your experience went well, painless, and quick as it should be. Thank you for your post and tips that you shared. All the best!

Thanks for posting your experience with having your wisdom teeth extracted, Siuyin. It was pretty smart of your dentist to remove only one of your wisdom teeth to help you feel better about having the rest of them removed. I'll admit, I'm also pretty nervous about getting them removed. It's good to know that you didn't experience pain after your surgery. Now I feel better about going in to get them extracted.

Ice pack or warm water are excellent for keeping the swelling down after the surgery for removing the wisdom tooth. Also, one common mistake many people make after surgery is to use straw to consume liquid. However, it is believed that straw loosens the blood cloth and also delays the healing process. So, stay away from straws for a few days.

So glad your wisdom tooth extraction experience went so well! I think sometimes anticipation and our imagination can make us think an experience will be much worse .than it actually is. I think it is smart that you posted what to do after your surgery because if you don't do them, you can have complications. So glad you did so well!

ReplyDeleteOmg hi!! After reading your post I booked an appointment with Dr Law too! Can you tell me more abt the surgery!! Like there was 0 pain during the surgery right? What about the drilling!! Was it loud??
ReplyDeleteHello! Dr Law is really really nice! So don't worry!
DeleteThe only pain i experienced during the surgery was the LA injection. Thankfully, the injection was done quite fast. Soon, you will feel the numbness. So i think this is still okay. Maybe just let Dr Law know that you are nervous and scared of pain? But she is very gentle and slow when injecting.
I think the most scary part for me is the drilling, coz i'm scared of the sound. It was quite loud. I think the music helps a little in relaxing yourself. Just check with Dr Law if you are able to do the same as well? Overall, the drilling part is absolutely painless. She might just use some strength coz she need to pull your wisdom tooth out.
If you are really scared like me, get someone to accompany you! My mum was with me that day!
Don't worry and wish you all the best!
Say hi to her for me! :)

ReplyDeleteHi siu yin, how long you feel pain after the extraction? I feel pain for more than a week and painkillers also can't stop the pain. BTW, I wasn't go to the same dentist. I'm just worried because I feel so painful.
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, i can't really remember but i think it was around a week as well. It's not really pain but like a sore feeling? I think you should give your dentist a visit with regards to your concern? That would be the best.
DeleteI have to agree; I also hate the prospect of pulling any teeth because of the drilling and the yanking. There's the awareness that it's supposed to hurt, but it doesn't, so I end up scaring myself by thinking that the anaesthesia will wear off before the surgery is over. It didn't, though, and I just ended up stressing myself more than necessary even though my dentist is the gentlest practitioner I've ever come across. So for those who would be having their wisdom teeth extracted, just chill. Make sure you bring someone with you to drive you home because the anxiety and anaesthesia can make you feel weak. Also, eat your favourite foods the day before the procedure - it would be days before you can have proper meals again. On the day of the surgery, don't forget to have a light meal then brush your teeth before coming in for the procedure.
